Visiting God

Visiting God

God loves the one who is kind to His servants. If you read the Qur’an, you will see in many verses that God wants us to be kind to His servants.

Being kind to God’s servants is so important that it is as if we, by being kind to God’s servants, are being kind to God Himself. On the Day of judgment, God will say to one of the humans, “Oh son of Adam! Why didn’t you come to visit Me when I was sick?” The man, surprised, will ask, “Oh Lord! You are the Lord of everyone and their God, how could I come to visit You when You were sick?!” God will say, “One of My servants was sick. If you had gone to visit him, it would be as if you had visited Me.” Then, God will say, “I wanted water but you didn’t give me any.” That man will say, “Oh God! But you are the God. You never needed water so that I could give it to you.” God will say, “One of My servants needed water but you didn’t give him. If you had given him water, I would have given you the reward of your kind act right now.”

Then, God will say, “I wanted food from you but you didn’t give Me any.” That person will say, “Oh Lord! You are the God and You never needed food so that You would want it from me.” God will say, “One of My servants wanted food from you but you didn’t give him. If you had given him food, I would have given you a reward right now.”

The kindest one of the kindest

 The kindest of the kindest

All the mothers and fathers love their children. If they didn’t love their children, they wouldn’t work so hard to raise them. If the fathers work during the day, it is because they want their children to be comfortable. If the mothers wake up at night due to the cries of their babies and feed them milk, it is because they love their children. Every mother and father love his or her children and is kind to them to the greatest possible extent.

Yes, mother and father are kind, but you should know that God is even kinder than mother and father. He loves His servants very much. One day, a man came to Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) with his child. The man was holding his child and was kindly embosoming him. It was obvious that he loved his child a lot. The prophet (s.a.w.w) asked him, “God’s kindness towards you is greater than your kindness towards your child. God is the kindest of the kindest.”

The birth of chickens

 The birth of chickens

The world is full of the signs of God’s existence. Wherever you look, you will find at least one of the signs of God. The Sun which lights the Earth, like a huge lamp, is one of the signs of God. The trees which give us colourful fruits are some of the signs of God. Thunder and lightning are other signs of God’s existence. The birds which fly in the sky are all signs of God. It is as if all of them are saying, “it is the God who has created us.”
You can see God’s skill in His creation by looking at the birth of little chickens. You know that the chickens hatch from the eggs. Hens sit on the eggs for a period of 21 days and after that, chicks are formed inside the eggs. When the chicks body has developed completely, it breaks the eggshell and comes out of the egg by itself.
One day, one of the disbelievers came to Imam Sadiq (a.s) to talk to him about God. The son of Imam Sadiq (a.s) had an egg in his hands and was playing with it. Imam Sadiq (a.s) took that egg from his son and said to the disbeliever, “This egg is like a closed room. It has a hard shell and under that shell is a weaker shell. Inside this egg, there is yolk and albumen which never mix. No hand ever enters the egg to create a chick. But colourful chick hatches from this very egg. Who brings this beautiful chick into existence inside the egg?”
From these words of Imam Sadiq (a.s), the disbeliever understood that God exists and became a Muslim.

God, I love you

If we look at our surroundings, we see that God has bestowed numerous blessings on us. The hands and legs we have are the blessings of God. Our eyes and ears are the blessings of God. The fruits we eat and water we drink are the blessings of God. The world is full of blessings which we use in some way.

The more we will think about His blessings, the stronger our faith will be in Him and the more we will love Him. One day, God told prophet Musa (a.s), "Love me and do something that people will also love me." Musa (a.s) said, "Oh God! you know that no one is more loved by me than you. I love you very much. But the hearts of your servants are not in my hands. How can I do something to make them love you?" God replied, "Remind them of my blessings and when they will think of my blessings, they will remember me and love me."

The sinful man and the thirsty dog

God is kind and likes those who are kind too. If we want God to be kind to us and forgive our sins, the best thing for us to do is to be kind to His creatures.

A believer should be kind to the animals as well; this is because animals are also God’s creation and the Exalted God likes acts of kindness towards them. Hundreds of years ago, there was a sinful man and everybody knew that he is a bad person. One day, he saw a thirsty dog that has brought his tongue out of mouth due to thirst. The sinful man felt sorry for the dog and went near a well to get some water for the dog. He looked around to find a rope but he did not find it. To obtain water, he made a rope using one of the garments he was wearing and tied it to a container and dropped it in the well. Then, he brought the container out of the well and placed it in front of the dog. The dog drank the water and was rescued from thirst.

God told one of Prophets of that time, “I liked the sinful man’s act of kindness towards one of My creatures and I have forgiven all of his sins.”

That prophet conveyed God’s message to the sinful man. When the sinful man heard this, he asked for forgiveness from God and became virtuous person.
